Laura Higgerty

Welcome! I am a Registered Psychologist living in beautiful Hinton, Alberta. I was born and raised here and consider it a privilege to serve and support my community. I completed my Masters of Science in Marital and Family Therapy in 2010 before returning home to Hinton. I have over 15 years of experience working with individuals (adults, children and youth), primarily in a non-profit setting, and specialize in providing therapy to individuals -adults, children and youth, who have experienced all forms of trauma.

I believe in working with people collaboratively to support them to create their own goals for therapy and to honor their personal experiences and strengths so they can recognize their own resilience. I strive to offer a safe environment for clients of all ages, backgrounds and life experiences and support them in their healing at their own pace. I see my role as walking alongside, rather than walking in front of the individual and directing their journey.

I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD. I am a registered provider with Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) for Indigenous individuals with Status to access free counselling. I am also a registered provider with Indigenous Services Canada that can offer free counselling for non-status individuals. Please inquire if you have questions about qualifying.
